  • 2 ounces piloncillo
  • 6 ounces Mexican chocolate (2 discs)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1½ cups warm water
  • ½ cup masa harina
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon fine salt
  • Ground cinnamon for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk, piloncillo, Mexican chocolate, and cinnamon stick. Stir until dissolved.
  2. Remove the cinnamon stick and strain the mixture if desired.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together masa harina and warm water until smooth.
  4. Add the masa harina mixture to the saucepan along with vanilla extract and salt. Stir well.
  5. Simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes until thickened.
