  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup cold whole milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 6 oz chocolate batons (or high-quality chocolate chips)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
  • Confectioners' sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir in cold milk until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Roll out dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter on two-thirds of it. Fold the unbuttered third over the middle and then fold again.
  4. Chill wrapped dough for 30 minutes, then roll out and fold twice more.
  5. Cut into triangles and place chocolate batons at the base; roll into crescents.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush croissants with egg wash and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
